Perplexity introduces always-on AI agents for workplace tasks

Perplexity has introduced “Teammates,” work-oriented AI agents designed to operate continuously inside a shared workspace. A Teammate can take on a particular role while using projects, skills, and memory already available through the company’s other Perplexity tools.

The feature connects with Perplexity Computer, which can deploy agents on a user’s device to carry out tasks. Perplexity says Teammates extend Computer toward collaborative, ongoing work rather than individual assignments. Users can give multiple Teammates different responsibilities and have them work at the same time, a setup comparable to OpenAI’s Dots and Anthropic’s Claude Duet.

Each Teammate has a separate conversation thread where users can monitor its progress. They can also communicate with the agents through Slack. Access requires Perplexity’s Max subscription, priced at $200 per month. CEO Aravind Srinivas said the company expects organizations eventually to have hundreds of Teammates working for each person.
