OpenAI could be IPO-ready in 2027, Greg Brockman says

OpenAI co-founder and President Greg Brockman said the company could be prepared for an initial public offering in 2027. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal technology conference on Wednesday, he said the timing would depend on when the company considered it appropriate, while expressing strong confidence in its business progress.

Brockman described 2026 as a year of change for OpenAI’s enterprise operations. He said the first two quarters were difficult and that the company had not been a major presence in agentic coding, where Anthropic’s Claude Code had gained market share. OpenAI had Codex, but it had attracted little attention at the time, he said.

In the third quarter, OpenAI’s annualized revenue rose 70% from the previous quarter, which Brockman linked to a doubling of the enterprise business. Enterprise customers now provide most of the company’s revenue, compared with about 30% previously, while consumer revenue has continued to grow. He cited a partnership with J.P. Morgan Chase as an example of its expanding corporate customer base. Brockman said OpenAI had also learned to build trust, identify useful milestones and present itself as a dependable long-term partner.
