Claude launches a read-only tool for analyzing personal finances
Anthropic has introduced Personal Finance, a Claude tool that lets users connect bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask questions about their finances. The company says access is read-only, so the tool cannot move, manage, or invest money. It is intended to provide account information and spending analysis in everyday language rather than generic financial guidance.
Users can ask where their money went during a month. Claude can combine transactions from connected accounts and organize them into categories such as rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Anthropic says the tool can also identify possible duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and bills that are gradually increasing. It can answer questions about spending versus income and explain concepts such as APR, including calculations of interest paid over the previous year.
Anthropic says Claude receives each connected institution’s name, account name and type, the last four account-number digits, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history. Conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models, according to the company. The feature begins a U.S. beta rollout this week for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers.
