Netflix tests AI Discover tab for mood-based recommendations
Netflix is rolling out an experimental “AI Discover” tab designed to help users find something to watch in new ways. Its first feature offers recommendations based on what viewers feel like watching at the time. Users can browse curated themes with clips from films and shows, organized around moods, viewing preferences, available time, or new and trending titles. Examples include “something light,” “scare me,” “family movie night,” and “quick watches.”
After selecting a theme, viewers receive matching recommendations and can narrow the search through more specific themes. The “something different” option restarts the process. Each title also includes “Tune Your Recommendations” next to “Play” and “My List,” allowing users to save suggestions or exclude titles from future recommendations.
Netflix says the feature uses an intelligence layer that responds to user input in real time and continues learning. The company calls AI Discover a testing environment, with feedback informing which features are retained or improved. The tab is initially rolling out in the U.S. to English-language users on supported TVs. Eligible viewers will see a “Discover” button with a red gem icon and a “New” label.
