Netflix adds AI Discover tab for themed recommendations

Netflix is gradually introducing an “AI Discover” tab in its television app in the United States. The feature is initially available to members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs. It will appear as a “Discover” tab in the top navigation and will host experimental tools designed to help viewers find shows and movies.

The first experiment organizes recommendations around themes such as “Something Light,” “Family Movie Night,” and “Quick Watches.” After a viewer selects a theme, Netflix presents titles it considers relevant. Viewers can also indicate that they do not like a recommendation, and the app will remember that feedback.

Netflix says the feature uses a new “intelligence layer” that responds to members’ input in real time and continues learning. The rollout comes after the company recently dismissed around 1,000 employees amid slower growth and reports that users are watching the service less.
