Meta acquires AI coding startup Conductor

Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup developing AI tools for software engineers. Conductor announced the deal on its blog, and Meta confirmed the acquisition without disclosing financial or other terms. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz said the company was joining Meta and suggested that a new interface for customers was planned for early next year.

Conductor’s platform lets users assign multiple AI agents to separate, parallel workspaces within a software project. The agent teams can operate in the cloud, on local systems or through a phone, while the underlying agents come from major AI companies including Anthropic and OpenAI rather than being built by Conductor itself. Holtz also said he expected to work with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, who leads product at its Superintelligence Labs.

Founded in 2024, Conductor launched its main product last summer. Holtz said its core features would continue operating as before until early next year. Its cloud service is due to close on November 20, followed by deletion of users’ cloud data. Meta launched its own coding agent, Muse Code, in August and said its Muse agents had passed 10 million users.
