OpenAI's GPT-Image-2 can now generate images without a background

OpenAI's GPT-Image-2 can now generate images without a background

OpenAI is previewing transparent background support for GPT-Image-2 through its API. Users can generate PNGs with no background. The Cookbook covers four use cases: product shots for online stores, PowerPoint diagrams, design elements like icons and stickers, and merchandise artwork. According to OpenAI, baking the alpha channel in during generation produces better results than conventional background removal, especially on tricky areas like transparent glass or thin fibers.

Users activate the feature with the "background=transparent" parameter. OpenAI recommends leaving background descriptions out of the prompt, since the model may still generate one otherwise.

For charts with exact numbers, OpenAI suggests verifying generated values manually. The model produces raster graphics and doesn't guarantee pixel-perfect accuracy. Setup requires Python, the OpenAI and Pillow libraries, and an API key.
