GPT-5.6 Sol drives OpenAI's revenue surge as it regains ground on Anthropic
The race between Anthropic and OpenAI is far from over, and OpenAI appears to be closing the gap. Since GPT-5.6 Sol launched on July 9, revenue is up 35 percent this quarter, with enterprise revenue growing more than 50 percent, according to CNBC. Ramp data confirms OpenAI is outpacing Anthropic in Q3 business API spending growth, 82 percent quarter-over-quarter versus 76 percent. OpenAI's next model, Astra, is set to launch in the coming weeks. Rumors suggest Anthropic could counter with an improved Fable 5.1.

Before GPT-5.6 Sol launched, Anthropic had reached a $65 billion annualized revenue run rate and overtaken OpenAI in quarterly revenue for the first time, according to Bloomberg. Anthropic pulled in $11.6 billion compared to OpenAI's $6.7 billion, as the Wall Street Journal reported. Growth had slowed at both labs, partly because open-weight models were gaining ground.
