OpenAI to acquire Pierre Computer Company for AI coding infrastructure

OpenAI is acquiring Pierre Computer Company, Inc., the startup behind Code Storage and several open-source developer tools. Pierre’s libraries already support OpenAI’s coding agent Codex. They include Trees, which enables fast navigation through project files; Diffs, which shows code changes and allows bugs to be fixed within the diff view; and Highlights, a real-time syntax highlighter for code written by developers or generated by an AI agent.

Code Storage stores code and records its history through Git. OpenAI said the acquisition is intended to improve Git workflows as developers and AI agents work on code alongside one another. The company said that tooling needs to handle more parallel work as agents take on additional tasks. OpenAI also operates Pando, a version-control backend designed for developers and agents. Pierre’s open-source projects will remain open source. The transaction still requires regulatory approval.
