OpenAI acquires NextSlide to bring AI-generated presentations into ChatGPT

OpenAI acquired NextSlide, the startup that turned prompts, notes, documents, and research into editable presentations. Founder Ahmed Beshry now works on the product side at OpenAI, building ChatGPT. The NextSlide website, which launched just over a year ago, now shows nothing but his farewell note.

Neither side disclosed the purchase price. Beshry wrote on LinkedIn that the announcement comes "a few months late" and that the deal closed earlier this year. This is Beshry's second exit. He previously co-founded Caper AI, which sold to Instacart for $350 million in 2021. TechCrunch first reported the deal.

In March, the company released a ChatGPT add-in for Microsoft Excel. In May, it shipped a plugin that works directly inside PowerPoint. As early as summer 2025, OpenAI was already testing agents that generate presentations and spreadsheets right in the chat, compatible with Microsoft formats but independent of Microsoft's apps.

NextSlide joins a string of small team acquisitions, including Sky, Roi, Context.ai, Crossing Minds, and the analytics startup Statsig, which OpenAI bought for $1.1 billion. In June, OpenAI picked up Ona, a German startup based in Kiel formerly known as Gitpod, whose team has since been working on Codex.
